for one piece of that size
Why buyers care about GSM: it's the fastest way to check you're getting what you paid for. Ordered 200 GSM canvas and the shipment feels thin? Cut a 10Γ—10 cm square, weigh it, and run it through the calculator. If it reads 165, you've got proof β€” not a feeling. We check this kind of thing on the factory floor for our clients.

What the numbers mean

There's no universal chart, but roughly: under 100 GSM is featherweight (voile, lining), 100–160 is your everyday shirting and quilting cotton, 160–220 covers most upholstery and canvas, and anything over 300 is heavy-duty (think denim, tent canvas). If a supplier quotes a GSM that sounds too good for the price, it probably is β€” ask for a swatch and check it yourself.
