Landed goods cost (value + duty)–

This is a ballpark, not a customs ruling. Your freight forwarder or customs broker will give you the exact figure for your HS code.

Read this before you trust the number. Duty depends on the exact HS code, the material mix, and sometimes the finish or size of the product. Two wooden chairs can attract different rates if one has upholstery. These ranges are typical for Indian exports in each category β€” good enough for budgeting, not good enough for a purchase order. When the order is real, get your broker to confirm the HS code.

Why rates differ so much

Countries protect their own industries. The US charges more on textiles (8–15%) because it has a textile lobby; furniture is often near zero. Australia's trade deal with India (AI-ECTA) has cut a lot of rates to zero β€” if your supplier gives you the right certificate of origin, you might pay nothing at all. The UAE mostly charges a flat 5% on everything, which makes maths easy.

One more thing people forget: duty is charged on the CIF value (goods + freight + insurance), not just the product price. On a $10,000 order with $2,000 freight, that extra $2,000 gets taxed too.
