Finished Indian products during quality inspection

It sounds basic, but one of the most common disputes between importers and Indian suppliers is quantity. The purchase order says 500 units. The container arrives with 475. Or 510, but 30 are damaged because of poor packing.

Why Shortages Happen

  • Production shortfall (factory didn't make enough)
  • Packing errors (wrong quantity per carton)
  • Samples or rejects removed but not accounted for
  • Deliberate short-packing (rare, but it happens)

Why Packing Quality Matters

Products that survive the factory floor may not survive 4-6 weeks of ocean transit. Pallets shift, containers sweat, and rough handling at ports can damage inadequately packed goods.

Verification Steps

1. Check carton count against packing list

2. Open random cartons and verify quantity per carton

3. Weigh cartons β€” consistent weight indicates consistent packing

4. Inspect inner packing materials (foam, bubble wrap, corner protectors)

5. Check outer carton condition (no damage, proper tape, clear labelling)

6. For heavy items: verify palletisation and strapping

7. Record everything with photos
